If the workshop-shop in your school is rather limited, it might be worth checking the net to see if you can get what you're looking for. But a lot of the time free scrap material, local crafts shops and builders resource magazines will do the job cheaper. Also, sometimes it's worth being a bit more creative with your search, where shopping at primary school's science experiment suppliers or at sports shops might be where you need to go for your modeling materials.
